While many were enjoying a restful bank holiday this Good Friday, the Alben team rolled up their sleeves and headed to Astley and Buckshaw JFC to carry out vital pitch sanding works… completely free of charge.
This initiative is part of our wider commitment to social responsibility, where we dedicate time, resources and expertise to support the communities we work in. For us, it’s not just about maintaining outdoor spaces, it’s about making a positive impact wherever we can.
What is pitch sanding?
Pitch sanding is an essential maintenance process for sports fields and playing surfaces. It involves spreading a layer of sand across the pitch to help improve drainage, reduce surface compaction and encourage healthy grass growth. Over time, heavy use and weather conditions can wear down the playing surface. Sanding helps to level out any uneven areas, supports root development and ensures a more resilient and high-performing pitch.
Regular sanding is particularly important on community pitches, where budgets can be tight and usage levels are often high. By carrying out this work at no cost, we’re helping to ensure that local sports teams and community groups can continue to enjoy a safe, quality surface to play on.
Although it was a bank holiday, our team were more than happy to give up their time to deliver these works. It’s a great example of the pride we take in what we do and the relationships we build with our local communities.
Whether it’s offering free maintenance work, supporting community events, or championing sustainable methods in our services, we’re always looking for ways to give back and make a difference.
We’re proud to support Astley and Buckshaw JFC and will continue to invest our time and expertise into creating better outdoor spaces for everyone.
